What are the restrictions for tail lift deliveries?

Posted 19th July, 2018

At Station Couriers, we offer a wide range of pallet delivery services including tail-lift deliveries. Although we are very experienced in this area, there are certain restrictions we face due to regulations and health and safety rules. However, you can help us overcome these problems and guarantee your delivery will run smoothly.

What are our restrictions?

Size and weight of pallet

We can only transport pallets of certain sizes and weights. This is determined by whether you are sending a quarter, half or full sized pallet. However, the maximum weight for a pallet being delivered by tail-lift is 1000kg.

Ground conditions

For the safety of our delivery drivers, and to ensure your deliveries arrive undamaged, there are certain ground conditions that we have to adhere to. We can only use a tail-lift on level ground as slopes can make the pallet unstable. We can only make deliveries on hard and even ground. pump trucks cannot be used over gravel, loose stones, cobbles or grass. Similarly, they can’t be pulled up high kerbs.

Unloading facilities

When placing your order, please tell us about any access restrictions so we have the right vehicle and equipment. This saves us a wasted journey and you additional charges. We will always try our utmost to provide pump trucks. Our services are kerbside deliveries only, meaning we will drive to the nearest access point possible. The receiver of the pallet will be required to collect it from there.

How can you help us?

Delivery information

To ensure there are no mistakes in your pallet delivery, we need you to tell us exactly where we are delivery to. We require the name of the recipient and the full delivery or site address, including the postcode. We ask for at least two phone numbers to make sure that our driver can get hold of you, should there be any problems. A responsible adult, aged 18 or over, must be available to sign for the delivery.

Pick a suitable delivery date

When booking your delivery slot, make sure you pick one that you know you can be present for. If you aren’t there when we arrive, our driver has had a wasted journey and you may be charged with additional charges.

Road access restrictions

When you place your delivery, be sure to let us know of any road restrictions in your area. This includes; height, weight, no parking, narrow lanes, pedestrian crossings or anything else you think will be important for us to know. This ensures we have the relevant vehicle and equipment in order to successfully make the delivery. This saves us a wasted journey and any additional charges for you to pay.

Unloading safety

We must abide by health and safety guidelines at all times. The freight that you are shipping must be able to offload easily via a tail-lift vehicle and be accessible from all four sides, with sufficient opening for a pump truck. If this cannot be done, the delivery site must have a forklift truck available.. Our drivers aren’t authorised to carry goods up and down steps, or through a property.

At Station Couriers, we will always go out of our way to make sure our customers receive excellent services. However, we do have to abide by the rules and regulations that are stated above. With your help, we can make sure your goods arrive at the correct time and undamaged.

View Testimonials

During these challenging times, and In a society where we are all too fast to complain when things are not as they should be, I believe in giving credit where credit is due.

I have recently received two deliveries from your company on behalf of Gravel Master U.K. and on both occasions by the same friendly and courteous driver (*Mark Lello*). Unfortunately I don't have his name, but it was his general manor, and the small gesture of putting the pallets in my garage, rather than leaving them kerbside that impressed me.

Please convey my sincere thanks to him.
