We’re going the extra mile to help Wales Air Ambulance

Posted 2nd February, 2022

Here at Station Couriers, we pride ourselves on going the extra mile for our customers. Now, we are delighted to be doing the same to help raise funds for the Wales Air Ambulance – and  attempting to break a world record while doing so!

A vital lifeline for rural communities

As a family owned and run company based in Newtown, we recognise just how important the Air Ambulance is in our community. As the largest county in Wales, Powys encompasses a rugged landscape of valleys and mountains, including most of Brecon Beacons National Park to the south and the Plynlimon range marking the border with Ceredigion to the west.

While the spectacular scenery of our winding country roads may be a key attraction for locals and tourists alike, the geography can present a real problem in the event of a life-threatening situation – and the Wales Air Ambulance really is a lifeline when time is of the essence and lives are at stake.

On a mission to help missions

The Wales Air Ambulance attended 3,544 life and limb-threatening emergencies in 2021, taking their overall mission count to over 41,000 missions since launching in 2001.

The service  operates 24/7, with a team of highly-trained medics providing emergency air and road cover across Wales to those who face life-threatening illness or injury, providing advanced critical care on scene. Having Consultants and Critical Care Practitioners working on the helicopters and rapid response vehicles means that patients can receive advanced treatments before reaching hospital, as well as getting to hospital as quickly as possible when needed.

Each of these life-saving missions costs on average £2,500-£3,000 – and as a charitable organisation, fundraising is vital to keeping the service running.

Our World Record attempt

When we decided to support the Wales Air Ambulance, we knew we had to go the extra mile just like we do for our customers across the UK and beyond  – and that’s when the idea was born.

With our fleet of lorries at the heart of everything we do, we knew they had to play a part in our mission to help make missions possible. So we came up with a fantastic idea.

On April 3rd 2022, we will be attempting to break the world record by pulling a lorry (by hand) down the length of the runway at Welshpool airport in order to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance, who will also be in attendance on the day!

How you can help us to help the Wales Air Ambulance

We hope to raise as much as we can for this incredible cause. If you would like to contribute before the event, simply text HELI to 70711 to donate £5 to the Wales Air Ambulance Charity. And of course, be sure to keep an eye on our social media as we get closer to the event for all the updates.

During these challenging times, and In a society where we are all too fast to complain when things are not as they should be, I believe in giving credit where credit is due.

I have recently received two deliveries from your company on behalf of Gravel Master U.K. and on both occasions by the same friendly and courteous driver (*Mark Lello*). Unfortunately I don't have his name, but it was his general manor, and the small gesture of putting the pallets in my garage, rather than leaving them kerbside that impressed me.

Please convey my sincere thanks to him.
